Lesson Purpose:

1. Students will be able to identify and locate the following three different types of clouds: Stratus, Cirrus, and Cumulus.

2. In small groups of four the students will map the location of each cloud and give a brief synopsis.

3. Individually students will keep a log for three weeks. In the log the students will document the "type" of cloud for each particular day. After the three weeks the information would then be used to create a graph.

Overview of Lesson:

This lesson is intended to help students identify and understand the different features of the three clouds. In addition, the students will be able to locate the clouds and understand that location effects the outcome of the weather.

Lesson Procedure:

Step 1: Teacher will read "The Cloud Book" to the class as a whole. Upon completion, the teacher will lead a conversation into a discussion about the three types of clouds. After the open discussion, in groups of four the students will use technology to further research the topic at hand. The students will have two websites to choose from.

Step 2: Using some of the research information the students will identify the three cloud types using a mobile.

Step 3: The information gathered in step 2 will be extended to fit the map chart. The chart will be used to show the location of the Cumulus, Stratus, and Cirrus clouds.

Step 4: The ongoing log will be used to create a graph. Each group will create a different type of graph using the "Graph Club."
