ESC-20 will provide loaner robots to netVision20 members. Five (5) VGo robots will be available. Currently there are several students that are not always able to be physically present in the classroom. Not only are districts losing dollars when students are not in class, the student is falling behind academically and feeling left out socially.
VGo is a new robot technology solution that will allow students to participate in class while allowing districts to count the student as present. The VGo replicates a person in a distant location allowing them to see, hear, talk and move around as if they were there. It has usage for special education, 504 and other special circumstances. Some of the special circumstances include injuries, chronic illnesses for extended periods of time, immune deficiencies and other health conditions and physical challenges that prevent a student from physically being able to attend school.
School districts have tried to accommodate these special needs by providing on-line courses, in-home tutors, special busing and videoconferencing. These are expensive and very limiting since students miss out on the classroom experience and social life that comes with attending school. Now, they can participate in classroom discussions and share in the social aspects of locker-side chats, lunch period and moving from class to class.
