HCS 26-27 Cooperative: Compliance Courses

 

 Anaphylaxis and Auto-Injectors

The purpose of this course is to help you understand what anaphylaxis is, learn common sources of allergies that can cause anaphylaxis (such as food allergies), how it can be prevented and how to manage anaphylactic emergencies.

 

Bloodborne Pathogens (also available in Spanish)

The purpose of this course is to educate school staff members about exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens and the Exposure Control Plans to prevent the spread of these diseases. 

 

Bullying Prevention for Administrators, Teachers, and Staff (also available in Spanish)

This course offers a comprehensive overview of bullying by defining its various forms and highlighting its widespread impact across all ages and backgrounds. Additionally, the course explores Texas laws and policies designed to protect victims and hold offenders accountable, providing learners with the knowledge and tools needed to effectively prevent and address bullying in their schools.

 

Child Abuse and Human Trafficking (also available in Spanish)

This course teaches individuals who work with children on a daily basis about the signs and symptoms of child abuse and human trafficking. Information was provided by the Dallas Children's Advocacy Center, TEA, and The Attorney General of Texas.

 

Concussions for Coaches and Nurses

This course is designed to give school personnel a thorough understanding of concussions, how they occur, how they are diagnosed, and prevention strategies. 

 

Conflict Resolution

This course provides educators with the knowledge, skills, and strategies needed to effectively address conflicts and build positive student relationships, ultimately promoting a safe and supportive learning environment for all. 

 

Cybersecurity

This course is approved by the Texas Department of Information Resources and provides best practices and strategies to maintain information and cyber security in your organization. The content was gathered using the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).

 

FERPA (also available in Spanish)

This course provides an overview of the FERPA. You will learn about the definition of educational records, what is personally identifiable information, and the rights of parents and eligible students under FERPA. This course will cover the responsibilities of schools in safeguarding student information.

 

Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA)

This course covers the essential elements of IDEA, including student eligibility and Child Find, and how it relates to educators' involvement in the special education process. The objectives of this course include identifying IDEA components, explaining the six essential elements of IDEA, and answering common IDEA questions.

 

Laws Governing the Rights of Students with Disabilities Overview (ADA/IDEA/504)

This course compares three laws in a brief overview: The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

 

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (also available in Spanish)

This course will provide educators who are responsible for the education of students with disabilities an understanding of the requirements and benefits of Section 504, a federal law that provides protections and accommodations for such students. By the end of the course, learners should be able to identify the components of Section 504 and its procedural safeguards, explain the evaluation and placement process, and answer common questions related to Section 504.

 

Sexual Harassment (also available in Spanish)

Using interactive materials, this course covers how everyone can build and maintain a respectful workplace that’s free of harassment and discrimination.

 

Substance Abuse (also available in Spanish)

This course provides an overview of substance abuse, addiction, and the effects of drugs on the brain. It covers the definition of substance abuse, genetic predisposition, environmental factors, and social influences that contribute to substance abuse. The course also defines addiction, discusses its physical and psychological components, and brain changes associated with prolonged substance abuse. 

 

Suicide Prevention (also available in Spanish)

This course will provide information about suicide, what to look for, and its effects. You will go over facts and myths, different risk factors, what your school can do, real-life examples, and other interactive opportunities.

 

Teen Dating Violence Prevention

This course provides a comprehensive understanding of teen dating violence and ways to prevent and respond to it. Learners will gain knowledge of House Bill 121, and the district's role in upholding this law. 

 

Texas AI Awareness

This course provides government employees and educators with a practical foundation in artificial intelligence (AI) awareness, focusing on safe, ethical, and responsible use in public sector and school environments. Participants will explore how AI systems work, where they are commonly used in government operations and education, and the benefits and limitations of these tools.

 

Texas Educators’ Code of Ethics

This course is designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the ethical standards and practices that are expected of Texas educators.

 

Title IX Sexual Harassment Training for Coordinators, Investigators

Title IX is a federal law that was enacted in 1972 to prohibit sex discrimination in educational programs and activities that receive federal funding. The law applies to all levels of education, from elementary schools to universities, and covers a wide range of areas, including athletics, admissions, and financial assistance. Title IX has had a significant impact on the education system in the United States, particularly in regard to inclusiveness in sports. However, the law also extends to addressing issues such as sexual harassment, assault, and other forms of sex-based violence on campus. In this course, we will delve deeper into Title IX's history, impact, and current state, exploring its efforts to ensure equal educational opportunities for all.

 

Understanding Copyright Law

This course provides educators with the knowledge, skills, and strategies to ensure compliance with copyright laws and fair use guidelines.  By understanding these concepts, educators can model and promote responsible use of copyrighted materials.
