  • The Planning Committee for the 2020 LOTE: World Language Educators Institute invites you to share your LOTE expertise in program development and/or classroom instruction with your colleagues at this year's institute. The committee is particularly interested in classroom teachers and leadership (new and veteran) sharing their instructional best practices with Institute’s attendees.

    All lead presenters will be able to attend the conference at a $50 fee. You will need to register in the CONNECT20 system. A code will be sent to you after all proposals have been selected. You will be able to register at that time.

    Proposal Submission Form:

    Proposals should:

    • Directly link to the conference theme: Shaping the Vision of Proficiency
    • Specifically address World Language Educators & Students, ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines, Technology, Heritage Speakers, Building Proficiency and/or Advanced Placement Instruction
    • Include a description of the presentation (revised before submitting)
    • Have a duration of 60 minutes
    • Respond to a need or interest of classroom teachers, administrators, parents and/or community
    • Consist of hands-on activities, lecture, demonstration, and/or discussion

    **Note: Please give credit to the resources being used in your presentation.**

    Your assistance is greatly appreciated. We are excited to have you provide your valuable insight and expertise to our regional and state educators of all foreign language learners.

    Timeline for Selection:

    • Notice of approved sessions will be sent out via email to the email addresses submitted in the proposal no later than January 24, 2020.

    EXTENDED Deadline to submit is January 9, 2020. Submissions after the deadline will be considered on a space-available basis but may not appear in the conference program or promotional materials.

    After serving as a high school teacher of Spanish, a high school administrator and then as Coordinator of Foreign Languages and International Education for the Georgia Department of Education, Greg launched a career in 1993 as an independent consultant. His work includes professional development of teachers and administrators, curriculum and assessment design, program development and evaluation, and he serves the professional organization community as a frequent invited speaker at state, regional, national and international language conferences. He has authored and collaborated in the authorship of numerous publications in the field of foreign language education, and he has led the development of Emmy Award-winning distance learning programming in Japanese and Spanish. He has been honored with numerous state, regional and national awards in addition to being recognized by foreign governments for his work to further language education. Greg’s responsibilities take him throughout the United States and to numerous other countries in any given year. His academic studies were undertaken at la Universidad de Salamanca, la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, the University of Georgia, Georgia State University and Kennesaw State University. He resides with his family in Atlanta, Georgia.

  • The ESC, Region 20 LOTE, Languages Other than English, Teacher of the Year Award was established to recognize the efforts of outstanding educators teaching in the LOTE classroom setting in the ESC, Region 20 area. We invite you to nominate a colleague for the 2020 LOTE: World Language Educators Institute Teacher of the Year! 

    Selection criteria include:

    • Teaching excellence, including effective use of LOTE teaching strategies specific to helping students develop progress and competence in the target language;
    • Willingness to devote time and energy to activities which result in improved instruction for students in LOTE classrooms, including keeping abreast of current research in the field of and attending staff development opportunities;
    • Contribution to LOTE education including, but not limited to, district or campus leadership roles, parent involvement activities, and awards/recognition of service; and
    • Respect of administrators, co-workers, parents and students. 

    Nominations for the 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year form (Deadline to submit nomination is October 18, 2019):

    Applications will be sent to the teachers who are nominated. Applications will be due on November 22, 2019.

We cordially invite your organization to consider participating as an exhibitor at our 2nd annual LOTE: World Language Educators Institute in San Antonio, Texas.
