Care of the Student at Risk for Severe Allergic Reactions While at School

This workshop will address SB 27 of the 82nd Texas Legislative Session requires that all school staff be trained in the care of students at risk of experience a severe allergic reaction. This workshop will cover how to identify the signs and symptoms of a severe allergic reaction and how to care for this potentially life-threating condition. Participants will learn how to appropriately administer epinephrine injectors during the session. Discussion will include the role of the school nurse as well as the Food and Nutrition staff in identifying and developing plans for preventative care.

This class aims to teach NSLP participants the basic knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to participate in the USDA’s Food Distribution Program for Schools prior to the application and planning process that begins in January.  This class will provide an overview of Regular USDA Foods, USDA Foods Processing, the Department of Defense (DoD) Fresh Program, and the DoD Farm to School Program.  Topics addressed in this training include program purpose, use of USDA Foods, ways to utilize entitlement and procedures for requesting, ordering, receiving, handling and storing USDA Foods.                                                                                                               Interested in using MENU Module at your District?  Please join us as we walk through the various steps needed to create your menus.  Training will cover the first 3 steps of MENU Module: finding and creating ingredients, creating recipes, and creating menu items.

For School Nutrition Program contracting entities who are undergoing an Administrative Review, this session will expose you to the areas addressed during the review.  An introduction to the off-site review process will be given with an opportunity to review the questionnaires and begin filling out the necessary information.  Attendance will be on a drop-in basis throughout the day, no formal instruction is planned.  Professional Standards Code: 3260

MENU Module: Menus to Assigning Menus (8:30 am - 11:30 am)

This session will cover the last steps in MENU Module before moving into production.  We will discuss creating menus, creating menu cycles, and assigning your menu cycles to your calendar.

Community Eligibility Provision (12:30 pm - 3:30 pm)

Contracting Entity (CE) sites operating the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs approved to operate the Community Eligibility Program (CEP) will serve all children that receive a reimbursable meal at no charge. Participate in an overview of the data used to establish claiming percentages for sites selected by a CE to participate in CEP. Review examples of supporting documentation and the validation process required when CEP is elected during the application renewal process. Discuss the direct certification matching process, definitions and the required CEP report that all CEs must submit in TX-UNPS every April.

Description: This course utilizes the American Heart Association’s curriculum concerning the awareness of blood borne pathogens in accordance with OSHA requirements in the “Right to Know” Act.  This course discussed what to do for blood or body fluid spills and appropriate disposal of contaminated materials.

This session will provide an overview of Procurement requirements and methods in the National School Lunch Program. The course is designed to help to assess your program’s procurement policies and procedures to determine how they align with program guidance. The session will also explore common findings noted during the initial series of Procurement Reviews.

American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED/First Aid

This session will provide a walk-through of the steps needed for configuration of your district within MENU Module. This session will be a combination of instruction and lab time. There will be time for you to work on your district's information with access to technical assistance with the trainer. Please bring a copy of your district calendar, menu, CN labels and nutrition info, recipes, and order guides. Please ensure you have completed and submitted an FND-101 and have obtained access to the MENU Module system prior to the training.

This technical assistance lab will allow you time to work on MENU Module in our computer lab with available technical assistance. We will be present to answer questions as your work through the process of inputting your information. Bring a copy of your menu, CN labels and nutrition info, recipes, and order guides.  No formal instruction will be included in this session.  Feel free to drop-in at any point throughout the session. Please ensure you have completed and submitted an FND-101 and have obtained access to the MENU Module system prior to the training.

This session is for contracting entities in the School Nutrition Program who are undergoing an Administrative Review (AR) during the 2019-2020 school year.  The workshop will provide an overview of the review process and address documentation that will be requested by the reviewer.  The AR Checklist will be discussed during the session. Following the session participants are encouraged to and schedule follow-up technical assistance visits with your ESC-20 Educational Specialist.

This session will focus on compliance requirements of the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs necessary to close out the school year and start off the new school year.  In addition, participants will receive information on the required records needed throughout the school year to ensure the program is collecting all the correct documentation.

This Technical Assistance (TA) Lab will allow you time to work through the new process for Direct Certification in the School Nutrition Program.  We will be available for technical assistance on the Direct Certification process.  Please bring your own laptop and electronic copies of your student enrollment and log-in information for TX-UNPS.

This course will focus on the chronological order of meal application procedures for the School Nutrition Program.  A review of required documentation and procedures will be paired with sample exercises on application processing. Professional Standards Code: 3110
