Literacy RBIS 1-4 refers to the four Research-Based Instructional Strategies for Literacy. These are essential best practices in literacy instruction that include foundational skills, complex texts, knowledge coherence, and evidence-based responses. RBIS are designed to ensure all students have access to grade-level instruction, with a strong focus on bridging the gap between research and practice in the classroom.
  • RBIS 1, Foundational Skills: The skills necessary for students to become proficient readers and writers, such as phonemic awareness and phonics.
  • RBIS 2, Complex Texts: Providing students with opportunities to engage with challenging and high-quality texts.
  • RBIS 3, Knowledge Coherence: Building students' background knowledge to help them better understand complex texts and concepts.
  • RBIS 4 Evidence-Based Responses: Equipping students with the skills to analyze evidence from the text and formulate evidence-based written or oral responses.
