Child Mental Wellness
The Head Start Program works collaboratively with parents to secure mental wellness services from health care providers, local community resources, the local district, and other professionals. The mental wellness services are provided through education and activities for children, parents, and staff.
Mental Wellness Support & Resources
Individual and small-group counseling for children is available upon referral from the classroom teacher or child's parent. The School Readiness Coach and school district counselor/social worker work collaboratively to provide individualized services for children. Counseling activities occur during group or individual opportunities.
When necessary, the program Mental Health & Disabilities Consultant observes the children and classroom staff in the classroom setting. Staff receive feedback and recommendations to improve the overall classroom wellness environment. Follow-up consultations are provided throughout the school year.
When we face challenges in our lives, our mental well-being may take a backseat to other pressing matters. It is important for us to remember that we also need to make time to focus on wellness. Adversity is a natural part of life, and being resilient is important to overcoming challenges and maintaining good mental wellness. Parents play an integral role in providing a strong foundation that supports learning and positive well-being for their children.
