Special Education Inclusive Practices

In accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 2004, schools are responsible for providing students who are receiving special education services the opportunity to participate in school through the least restrictive environment. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act requires that students with disabilities have access to the general curriculum, be involved in the general curriculum, and progress in the general curriculum.
As general education classrooms become more inclusive, strategies for providing access to the general curriculum are needed so that students with disabilities are actively involved and progress within the curriculum in these classrooms.
Our goal is to offer specific professional development offerings and support to assist teachers and administrators with strategies and methods to ensure students with disabilities are not only provided access to the general curriculum but are making academic progress. Specific training topics include (but are not limited to): Specializing Instruction, Individual Education Program (IEP) Development, Inclusive Practices, Accommodations & Modifications, Co-Teaching, Specialized Support for State Assessments, Engagement Strategies and Collaborative Curriculum Supports. 

Inclusion in Texas Statewide Network

Education Service Center, Region 20 provides statewide leadership for the Inclusion in Texas Statewide Network. The Inclusion in Texas Network works in collaboration with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to build a statewide culture of high expectations for students with disabilities and significantly improve academic and functional outcomes for students served by special education.
