ELAR TEKS
The State Board of Education (SBOE) gave final approval on May 10, 2017, to new English language arts and reading TEKS for kindergarten–grade 8 were implemented in classrooms beginning with the 2019–2020 school year.
The SBOE gave final approval on June 23, 2017, to new English language arts and reading TEKS for high school. The new high school TEKS were implemented in classrooms beginning with the 2020–2021 school year.
The SBOE approved in September 2024 new ELPS for kindergarten–grade 12. The new ELPS will be implemented in classrooms beginning with the 2026–2027 school year. The following document reflects the new ELPS approved by the SBOE. The ELPS includes two sections: student expectations and proficiency level descriptors. In the new ELPS, proficiency level descriptors are hyperlinked in the rule text as figures (Kindergarten–Grade 3: Figure 19 TAC §120.20(e)(2) and Grades 4–12: Figure 19 TAC §120.21(e)(2)).

Pre-Kindergarten Guidelines (Revised 2022)
The Texas Prekindergarten Guidelines were revised to align with the Kindergarten Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), condense content, include inclusive language of multi-lingual learners and special populations, eliminate errors and ambiguity, and to meet section 508 accessibility compliance. Implementation of the 2022 Texas Prekindergarten Guidelines began in the 2023-2024 school year.
