Additional Days School Year (ADSY)

The Additional Days School Year (ADSY ) initiative, established through House Bill 3, provides funding for school systems that extend the academic calendar by adding instructional days for students in grades K-5. Its primary goal is to prevent summer learning loss and promote higher academic achievement. ADSY programs combine academic instruction with enrichment experiences to support the whole child more effectively--fostering engagement, creativity, and social-emotional development alongside academic growth.

Education Service Center, Region 20 is honored to provide support to ADSY grant recipients through the Additional Days School Year Planning and Execution Program (ADSY PEP).

What is ADSY PEP?
The Additional Day School Year Planning and Execution Program (ADSY PEP) is a structured planning and continuous improvement process which draws lessons from the National Summer Learning Project (NSLP), a six-year effort funded by The Wallace Foundation to explore the impact of district-run summer learning programs in partnership with community organizations.
Why ADSY PEP?
ADSY PEP is designed to accelerate academic growth and strengthen student engagement. Research shows that students who participate in ADSY PEP demonstrate greater gains in Math and Reading, and develop more positive mindsets about summer learning opportunities.
ESC-20's Role in ADSY PEP

As one of the three lead Education Service Centers for ADSY PEP, ESC-20 plays a critical role in guiding districts through the planning and implementation of high-quality summer learning programs.  In collaboration with Regions 1 and 11, ESC-20 supports LEAs across Texas by delivering targeted technical assistance, expert coaching and access to proven tools and resources.

Scope of the Work:

Local Education Agencies (LEAs) will participate in a year-long strategic planning process for summer learning. This process includes high-quality professional development, tailored technical assistance, a statewide convening, and comprehensive impact reporting. Additionally, LEAs will showcase their summer learning programs through scheduled statewide partner visits to share best practices.
