What is a Paraprofessional?
Working as a paraprofessional (also known as a teacher's aide or instructional aide) is a vital role supporting students and teachers to create a positive, effective learning environment under the guidance of a certified teacher.
Core Responsibilities

Student Support: Provide one-on-one tutoring or lead small-group learning activities.

Instructional Assistance: Assist with classroom management, lesson material preparation, and routine administrative tasks.

Campus Safety & Supervision: Monitor designated areas throughout the campus (such as hallways, cafeteria\, playground, computer labs, or the library) to ensure a safe, orderly, and secure environment for all students.
- Communication Support: In special cases, assist with language translation for non English speaking students and their families.
Education Service Center, Region 20 provides specialized training and technical assistance to districts and charter schools in the following areas:
- ESSA Qualifications: Programs designed to help paraprofessionals meet the "Highly Qualified" requirements under the Every Student Succeeds Acts (ESSA).
- Classroom Strategies: Effective instructional strategies to support student learning in core areas such as reading, writing and mathematics.
