Paraprofessional Certification Training

Education Service Center, Region 20 offers a comprehensive three-day workshop designed to meet the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requirements for highly qualified paraprofessionals.

Program Overview

This institute provides scientifically based research strategies to support instruction in reading, writing, and mathematics. The curriculum is fully aligned with statewide Texas essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and STAAR initiatives.

Key Focus Areas

• Instructional Support: Proven strategies to assist with reading, writing, and mathematics.
• Roles & Responsibilities: Clarifying the daily expectations and scope of paraprofessional work.
• Student-Centered Strategies: Addressing diverse student needs, sheltered instruction, and classroom management.
• On the Job Skills: Practical techniques for effective collaboration and classroom success.

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must hold a high school diploma or GED

• Full Attendance Required: Participants must attend all three days in full to receive attendance credit and eligibility for the final assessment.
• Assessment: A locally developed assessment evaluates knowledge and competency in assisting with reading, writing, and math instruction.
• ESSA Certificate:  Upon completion and scoring of the assessment, participants will receive an official ESSA/ ESC20 certificate detailing there completion of the training and passing of the assessment.
