TEA Coordinated School Health and Safety - Bullying and Cyberbullying

This page provides the definitions and laws related to bullying and cyberbullying. There are also links to resources to assist in educating others about bullying and cyberbullying.

 

Minimum Standards for Bullying Prevention

The Texas Education Agency has released the minimum standards for bullying prevention policies and procedures to be implemented by school districts and open-enrollment charter schools under Texas Education Code (TEC), §37.0832

 

Bullying Prevention Toolkit

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine have come together to create this Bullying Prevention Toolkit.  The toolkit provides resources for youth, parents, teachers, school administrators, community leaders, health care providers, policymakers and more to help prevent bullying through science, policy, and practice.

 

Bullying Awareness Guidebook

Bullying is a serious subject, with short and long-term implications for both the victim and the bully. The guide below brings awareness to numerous types of bullying and who may be targeted, while also providing guidance to students, parents, educators and school professionals on how to prevent and stop this debilitating public aggression. Special attention is given to cyberbullying, an ever-growing issue for today’s generation.

 

Preventing Bullying Through Science, Policy, and Practice

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine released a bullying prevention toolkit for teachers. The toolkit includes information about the four main types of bullying, statistics on bullying, the harm caused by bullying and prevention and intervention techniques for teachers.

 

Youth Truth Student Survey

According to the survey, 25 percent of students in grades 5-12 report being bullied. This survey draws on anonymous responses from 180,000 students in 37 states, including Texas. The survey found that most bullying happened in person, not online. Almost half of all bullied students (44 percent) cited appearance as the reason they were bullied. This survey contains additional information on bullying that can be utilized in supporting bullying prevention activities.
